Barack Obama shares a list of books he's reading this summer

In a Facebook post on Sunday night, Barack Obama put out a short list of books he's been reading this summer.

According to him, 'one of my favorite parts of summer is deciding what to read when things slow down just a bit, whether it’s on a vacation with family or just a quiet afternoon. This summer I've been absorbed by new novels, revisited an old classic, and reaffirmed my faith in our ability to move forward together when we seek the truth. Here’s what I’ve been reading'.

The books Obama recommended are:
"Educated" by Tara Westover, a memoir about a woman who leaves her survivalist Idaho roots behind;
"Warlight" by Michael Ondaatje, a post-World War II novel that Obama says is "a meditation on the lingering effects of war on family;"
"An American Marriage" by Tayari Jones, about a newlywed black attorney wrongly convicted of rape;
"Factfulness" a tome by Swedish academic Hans Rosling on the "secret silent miracle of human progress," and;
"A House for Mr. Biswas," considered to be the first, great novel by the late V.S. Naipaul.

8-year-old girl brutally raped and murdered by a family friend in South Africa

 8-year-old girl brutally raped and murdered by a family friend in South Africa
An eight-year-old girl was raped and murdered by a family friend in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Vutlhari Sithole disappeared last Friday evening, August 17, at a playground in Lehae, south of Johannesburg. Her body was discovered on Saturday, after a 12-hour search.

A neighbour, who is also her grandfather's colleague, allegedly told her to follow him to his house where he promised to give her R10.

Her family said they are haunted by the state of her body, which was found dumped in the veld.

Vutlhari's grandfather Zwelakhe Nukeri said he was shattered when he saw the girl's lifeless body in the veld along the Golden Highway.

"I saw that she was bashed in the head several times. Her neck was bruised because the guy strangled her. She was in a small ditch on the other side of the Golden Highway," said Nukeri.

Vutlhari lived with her grandparents in Lehae, while her mother lives in Tzaneen, Limpopo.
Nukeri said he struggled to hold back the tears and the image of Vutlhari's lifeless body haunts him.

"Her pants were pulled down to her knees and you could see that she was fighting for her life because she also had bruises all over her body," said an emotional Nukeri.

He said Vutlhari disappeared after she told her grandmother that she was going to play at a park near their house.

Her grandmother, Evodia Nukeri, grew concerned when she noticed that she had not returned after dark.

"We started a search party and even went into the veld nearby and came across two children who said they saw the suspect pulling a dustbin to the dumping site," she said.

The grandmother said they looked in the dustbin, which was left at the site, but Vutlhari was not there.

"I saw the suspect moments after and I asked him if he saw Vutlhari but he didn't respond, instead he just walked away.

"I paid very little attention to his reaction. I was in a frantic state. We haven't seen him (the suspect) since Friday night."

The grandmother said a neighbour apparently heard Vutlhari screaming.

"The guy's neighbour told us that she heard her screaming 'don't kill me' but failed to act because she did not want to involve herself in matters that did not concern her," she said.

An emotional Evodia said she did not understand why a family friend would be so cruel as to abduct, rape and murder their granddaughter.

"We know him. He is a very quiet and sweet person," she said.

Evodia described her granddaughter as sweet.

"She loved school and she loved reading," she said.

Police spokesperson Captain Mpande Khoza, who confirmed the incident,  said the 27-year-old suspect was being sought for Vutlhari's rape and murder.

Nigerian Men Are Liars –Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson It appears Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson is so disappointed by the few Nigerian men she was attracted to that she feels no love and respect for Nigerian men any more.
“I wasn’t in a relationship with Ice Prince; he was just a friend to me. I don’t understand the kind of attention he was trying to draw to himself by claiming we had a relationship. If he wanted to say the truth, why didn’t he just say it from the beginning? All along he’d been saying that we’re friends and all of a sudden he turns around to claim that it was more than a friendship” she revealed.
In her recent interview with Genevieve Magazine, Yvonne Nelson outrightly dismissed Nigerian men as pathological liars.
Asked about the nationality of her next boyfriend, she responded: “I don’t know yet. I can’t say I want a Nigerian, or a Gambian or a Cameroonian. When it happens, it happens. But Nigerian men can lie. Nigerian guys can lie for the whole of Africa. They will come with all the lies because they know that women respond to the things they hear. The lies are just so crazy. And I’m not some 19 year-old who just wants to have fun. I’m not in that place anymore. So I’m taking my time to get it right” she said.
In the interview she also denied she ever dated Ice Prince.
